Amid Pandemic, Youth from Anantnag Town Provides Free Drive to Ferry Covid Patients, Pregnant Women to Hospital

Amid the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, a 33-year-old man from Anantnag has come forward to help the COVID-19 affected and other patients by providing his vehicle and taking patients to hospital and back home free.

Sajad Ahmad Shah, 33, a resident of Sadiqabad Anantnag, a driver by profession, drives his Eco vehicle and provides a free ride to COVID-19 affected and pregnant ladies while taking all precautions, wearing a PPE kit, sanitization and others.

Considering the increasing number of coronavirus patients across the valley, Shah has been providing free services for the last few days and is ready to carry dead bodies of COVID-19 patients.

Shah said that after witnessing many people including pregnant women, COVID-19 patients moving from pillar to post for a vehicle, he decided to work for humanity.

“I drop off corona patients to Covid Care Center and the hospital for free of charge and also bring discharged patients from the hospital and Covid Center to their respective homes. I am even ready to carry dead bodies of COVID-19 patients,” he said.

Shah said that he would continue the service as long as the COVID-19 wave continues.

“So, far I have provided free travel to 4 COVID-19 patients and have got appreciation from all corners,” he said.

Sajad said police and administration is allowing him to do the good work without any hurdle.

“Last time, I had to spend Rs 1200 for fuel in ferrying a patient from Anantnag to Srinagar and then to return back,” he said. “I appeal to people to call me only when it is necessary. I am available 24/7.”—(KNO)
