Amid the rising drug addiction in the Kashmir valley, an Islamic seminary based in south Kashmir conducted a Bhang (cannabis) destruction drive in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon.
“During the drive, Bhang was destroyed in two villages in the main town of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. More than thirteen youth were caught red-handed collecting cannabis here. But we will not reveal their identities as it will serve no purpose. These drug addicts need proper counseling,” Irshad Ahmed Hyderi, the Principal of Idara Tehqiqat e Islami, which conducted the Drive said.
“Drug addiction has risen beyond imaginable levels. It is time for religious leaders and civil society, in general, to beef up their efforts in trying to control the rising addiction to drugs. During our drive, we saw many teenagers take drugs. Many of them are as young as 14. It is disheartening to see such young children engaging in addiction. We all need to work collectively to stop the menace of drugs,” Irshad Hyderi said.
In a video of the event that has been uploaded over Social media, several youths gathered under the banner of Idara Tehiqat e Islami, a seminary found in the year 1985, are seen destroying the Bhang cultivation spread to several Kanals of land.
Several youths from various villages have joined the Drive which will be conducted in various phases in several parts of south Kashmir.
