Amid scorching heat, Zafran Colony, Pantha Chowk, Srinagar residents decry unscheduled power cut

Yet again, another day-long power shutdown in Zafran Colony and its adjoining areas amid scorching day temperatures on Tuesday has left the residents with many areas facing acute shortage of drinking water. Patients and elderly are also suffering in absence of power supply.

PDD officials however, say that it was a temporary shutdown as new wires are being laid to connect newly installed transformers. As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the residents of Zafran Colony, Achanambal, Iqbal Sector, Zewan and Zawoora areas expressed their anger against the government and the PDD for resorting day-long power cuts simce past three days. “We get drinking water only when power is available. There

has been acute shortage of drinking water in our area,” said Gulzar Ahmed, a resident of Zafran Colony, Srinagar.

He said that power breaking down has causer huge inconvenience to people especially elderly in the wake of rise in day temperatures after a three day wet spell. Another resident said that LG Manoj Sinha recently said people can complain about unscheduled power cuts. ” Why power supply is being cut of PDD is laying new lines. Why people are left to suffer for the whole day,” he said, adding since past three days the zafran colony and its adjoining areas are witnessing unscheduled day long cuts under the garb of connecting new transformers.

Elderly people of the area appealed LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and adress the issue stating that there is water shortage in the area as well due to power shutdown.

A PDD official said cut was temporary and power will be restored by 5 pm. ” We are laying new wires and connecting new transformers. We request people to bear,” he said—(KNO)
