Officials on Friday sealed 39 shops, which were constructed by Local Auqaf, in south Kashmir’s Tehsil Bijbehara.
Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that a team led by revenue officials sealed thirty-nine shops in the Kanelwan area of Bijbehara. The shops were constructed by the local Auqaf committee of Kanelwan and the rent of the shops was used for the Mosque along with other relief works for the local population.
Locals said that the rent money was being used for the welfare of the general public.
The administration claimed that they were constructed on state land.
An official from the revenue department while talking to the media said that the shops have been handed over to the Rural Development Department.
Earlier on Friday, a protest was staged in the Harnag area of Anantnag against the state land eviction drives launched across Jammu Kashmir in pursuance of LG Manoj Sinha’s orders to free state land from “Encroachers.”
In Shopian’s Nagbal, over two hundred to three hundred shops observed a shutdown on Friday against the proposed anti eviction drive against more the shopkeepers who have been informed that the shops were built on state land. Keller in Shopian observed a shutdown on Thursday.
