Anantnag encounter: Body of missing trooper recovered

The body of an army personnel has been found in the Gadol forests in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, taking the death toll of government force personnel to five.

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday the body of Army personnel Pradeep, who had been missing since the first day of the encounter has been recovered and is currently being transported back.

On Monday, the encounter in Kokernag of Anantnag, continued for the sixth consecutive day.

At 7 A.M, a search operation was started in the mountains in Kokernag of Anantnag, for the sixth consecutive day on Monday.

Reports suggest that this is the longest running anti- militancy operation since 1995.

On September 13, Indian Army’s Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, Rifleman Ravi Kumar and Jammu Kashmir Police’s DSP Himayun Bhatt were killed during the encounter with militants in Kokernag.

On Friday, another trooper lost his life due to injuries sustained during the encounter.

Earlier on Sunday, a burnt body was recovered from near the cave on Sunday. DNA test will be conducted for its identification.

According to sources, this body could be that of a militant, hence there is a possibility of taking DNA samples from the family members of a militant said to be involved in the attack on government forces. “Based on clothing patterns and other evidence, the body looks like to be that of a militant,” said the sources.
