Anantnag police uncover massive contraband operation; Family arrested

Anantnag Police acted on credible information and successfully dismantled a family’s well-coordinated illegal trade operation involving illicit alcohol and cannabis charas powder.

The family, consisting of Mohd Ramzan Ganai, Shahzada Akhter, and Zubair Ramzan Ganai, was found to be engaged in a carefully planned criminal conspiracy, operating from their residence in Seer Hamdan Mattan.

Reliable sources indicated that the trio had concealed substantial quantities of illicit alcohol and cannabis charas powder in discreet hideouts within their residential premises, Swift Dzire Car, Baleno car, and Motorcycle.

Subsequently, Anantnag Police registered a case under FIR No. 04/2024, invoking sections 8/20,29 of the NDPS act and 48,50 of the Excise Act at the Mattan Police Station.

A dedicated search team, comprising Anantnag Police and an Executive Magistrate, conducted a thorough search of the implicated residence.

The operation yielded a substantial seizure, including approximately 9.27 Kgs of Charas powder and 867 bottles of illicit alcohol. The contraband items were confiscated on the spot.

The swift action by law enforcement led to the immediate arrest of all three accused individuals. Additionally, assets linked to their illicit activities, such as the Swift Dzire, Baleno car, KTM Motorcycle, and a cash amounting to Rs. 13,325, were seized as part of the operation.

The investigation into this case remains ongoing, with law enforcement agencies committed to uncovering further details and dismantling any associated criminal networks.

Community members are urged to actively participate by sharing any relevant information about drug peddlers in their neighborhoods. Authorities emphasize that individuals found involved in drug peddling will face strict legal consequences, Police stated in its press release.
