
On Monday, police in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh came up with a statement that they have identified 235 people who have become addicted to the consumption of sanitizer. They have stated that this could be due to non-availability of liquor. Last week, the region registered 14 deaths due to consumption of hand sanitizer.
“We are in the process of identifying more people. It is an ongoing process and we are in continuous engagement with them, counselling them and telling them about the dangers of consuming sanitisers,” said SP Siddharth Kaushal said in a statement.

The official also said that two people who died last week hosted a “sanitizer” party on 29th of September
Some tipplers, most of them labourers, initially tried sanitiser mixed with soft drink or water. In the prevention of the coronavirus liquor shops in two villages had been shut. SP said that these people are daily drinkers hence they went for cheaply available hand sanitizer.
YSR Congress Party MLA from Darsi Venugopala Rao, who visited the village, urged people not to consumer sanitiser as it could prove fatal.
Police now seizing the sanitizer and providing health counselling to them.
