Another case of alleged medical negligence at GMC Anantnag; Hospital orders probe

A video from Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has gone viral, showing an attendant accusing doctors of medical negligence after the death of a patient in the south Kashmir hospital.

In the clip, the attendant alleges that an unidentified doctor administered two injections that triggered a reaction, leading to the patient’s death. “They didn’t even write the name of the injections on our prescription letter. When the patient’s condition worsened, the doctors ran away and nobody came to us after that,” the attendant claims.

Responding to the allegations, GMC Anantnag issued a statement on Monday, assuring a thorough investigation and strict action if any lapse is found.

According to Dr. Showkat Hussain Tali, Media Coordinator at GMC Anantnag, the patient was admitted to the Medicine Department on August 8, 2025, before being shifted to the Department of Surgery the following day for a suspected surgical abdomen. On August 10, the patient was moved to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) with acute pancreatitis, a history of chronic substance exposure, multi-organ failure, and a rapidly deteriorating condition.

The hospital said the patient displayed “extremely aggressive behavior,” making treatment difficult, a situation also witnessed by other attendants. Despite this, the patient was managed as per protocol. The statement said the patient later developed severe hypoxia and was intubated and ventilated, but subsequently suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest. CPR was administered, but the patient could not be revived.

GMC Anantnag further alleged that after the death, some attendants damaged doors and furniture, forcing SICU staff to leave through a safe passage.

The administration reiterated its commitment to patient care within available resources, urging citizens to report complaints directly for action against erring staff. It also advised the public against sharing hospital images or videos on social media without permission, warning of possible legal action.
