On March 2, the dead body of Sheikh Jameel-ur-Rehman, a prominent Kashmir militant, was discovered in the Shah Kot area of Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Multiple Reports suggest that he was abducted by unidentified assailants from Dobather Bagh locality in Abbottabad before being found with bullet wounds.
The circumstances surrounding his abduction and demise remain unclear.
Originally hailing from Lajoora area of Pulwama, Sheikh Jameel-ur-Rehman was a significant figure within Tahreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM), operating as a commander.
His alleged involvement in numerous militancy activities in Kashmir led him to relocate to Pakistan.
Notably, he held positions as the secretary-general of the United Jihad Council (UJC) and the emir of Tahreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM), earning him the designation of a terrorist by the Home Ministry in October 2022.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in targeted killings of top militant commanders by unidentified assailants.
Pakistani security officials have attributed these killings to “unknown men.”
Recent incidents include the killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) militant Azam Cheema in Faisalabad in February, known for his role in the 2006 train bombing and as a trainer for the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Additionally, LeT commanders Adnan Ahmed and Akram Ghazi met similar fates in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, respectively.
Another militant linked to the 2018 Sunjwan attack was abducted and beheaded near the Line of Control.
