A local militant was been killed and an Army personnel injured during an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The encounter began on Friday night after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
“Two militants are still believed to be holed up in the area, and the operation is ongoing,” official sources told The Kashmiriyat.
The injured soldier was evacuated from the site and shifted to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, visited the site on Saturday and is personally monitoring the operation on the ground, officials confirmed.
