Army trooper injured in Baramulla encounter succumbs

An Indian army trooper who was injured in an encounter between militants and security forces in Wanseeran Taripora area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district succumbed to injuries on Thursday.

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday joint team of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

They said that militants fired upon forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter during which one Army trooper was wounded.

He was shifted to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

The trooper identified as Kulbushan Manta has succumbed to injuries, they said.

Earlier the ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said He added that brief exchange of fire, search operation is going on.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has said that One militant of LeT namely Nisar Ahmad Bhat S/O Mohd Akbar Bhat R/O Shrakwara Kreeri, District Baramulla was apprehended alive during the encounter.

“Another militant of Lashkar e Taiba, Usman of Pakistan, who is wanted in various cases, is being pursued. 01 modified AKS 74u, 01 magazine, 28 rounds among other incriminating materials have been recovered from the apprehended militant,” Indian Army said.
