One army trooper was killed in a militant attack on the Sunjwan army post in Jammu, news agency Global News Service reported.
Sources reported that militants carried out an attack on the army camp in the Sunjwan area of Jammu, leading to the injury of one soldier.
“A few gunshots were heard, followed by a period of silence. It appears to have been a standoff attack, possibly involving a sniper,” the defence sources added.
The injured soldier was transported to a hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
A large-scale search operation has been initiated in the area, with particular focus on tall buildings to locate the attackers. “Drones have been deployed for aerial surveillance,” defence sources noted, adding that Jammu has been on high alert due to a recent surge in militant attacks targeting the army.
Over the past three years, 43 soldiers have been killed in various militant attacks in the Reasi, Kathua, Poonch, and Doda districts.
