The Kashmir valley has been seeing a constant rise in the number of Militant recruitment after the fall the summer uprising of 2010.
Reports estimate that as many as 500 local youth have become militants out of whom the majority have come from South Kashmir.
A report by Indian agencies has spotlighted the spread of the militancy that was quelled in 2010, but surged after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016.
According to a report, 88 youths from 68 villages of North Kashmir districts have joined militancy since 2010.
Typically, a fresh recruit today announces his entry into militant ranks by posing with a gun and posting that picture on social media. His family then approaches police with a missing report to avoid trouble.
Even though, the recruits aren’t trained, don’t have a steady supply of arms and are dependent on the rifles snatched from police and security forces, there is a pattern of rising Militant recruitment in the Kashmir valley.
The killing of Militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016, marks a watershed in militancy in the Valley because it is directly linked to a cycle of recruitment to this day.
