At least 60 Civilians Shot Dead in 2018 So far

60 Civilians have been killed in Kashmir in the first six months of 2018, as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat.

The year started on a bloody note when Fidayeen stormed into a Police Line in South Kashmir attack killing 08 Troopers.

105 Militants as reported earlier by The Kashmiriyat have also been killed during gunfights in Kashmir with Government Forces.’

The first civilian killings were reported on 06 January when a civilian was killed in Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam District.

On 24 January a teenager was shot dead during clashes at encounter site in Chaigund area of South Kashmir’s Shopian District, a girl was also injured during the clashes, she succumbed to her injuries later.

On January 27, soldiers of the Indian Army opened fire on civilians during a clash in Ganowpora, in Shopian district, killing three including a minor. Five days later, a 10-year-old child injured by an unexploded shell in Shopian died of his wounds.

On February 19, a 60-year-old man, believed to be mentally challenged, was killed as he wandered into an Air Force base in Central Kashmir.

On 04th March, four civilians were shot dead in Pehnoo area of South Kashmir’s Shopian District.

On Ist April, 04 civilians were shot dead after three encounters raged in South Kashmir areas, 13 Militants were also killed.

On 11 April, 04 Civilians were shot dead near encounter site in Khudwani, the militants managed to escape.

On 30 April, One Civilian was killed during the encounter in which Sameer Tiger was killed at Drabgam area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District.

On 06 May, 05 Civilians were again killed after an encounter erupted between Government Forces and Militants in Badigam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian District.

2 Civilians died in Srinagar when they were mowed down by vehicles of Government Forces during clashes.

On 28 May, a civilian was killed when Government forces opened fire on Militants in Kakpora area of Pulwam District.

On 22 June, One civilian Mohammed Yusuf Rather was killed, while another civilian was killed during clashes near encounter site in Sirigufwara, he succumbed later.

One civilian was killed during clashes near encounter site on 24 June after an encounter raged in Matalhama area of Kulgam, Shakoor Dar was killed in the encounter.

On 29 June, a school boy was shot dead in Chatpora area of Pulwama.

Unidentified gunmen have killed many civilians. On a single night 3 civilians were shot dead in Sopore and in another incident two people were abducted in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and later killed by the unidentified gunmen.

The Unidentified gun also claimed the life of veteran Journalist, Shuja’at Bukari.

During last year 81 civilians were killed while the total number of casualties reported in 2017 were 384.
