‘Attempt to disturb communal harmony’: Two Hindutva men arrested for pasting Pakistani flag at railway station

In an alarming incident in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, a Pakistani national flag was discovered pasted on the wall of a public toilet near Akaipur railway station, falling under the Gopalnagar Police Station’s jurisdiction. The discovery triggered panic among locals and prompted an immediate police response.

Following a swift investigation, police arrested two local residents — Chandan Malakar (30) and Progyajit Mondal (45) — both reportedly associated with a political party and the outfit Sanatani Ekta Manch. During interrogation, the duo admitted to deliberately placing the flag and planning to write provocative slogans like “Hindustan Murdabad” and “Pakistan Zindabad” to stir communal unrest.

Authorities say the act was premeditated, aimed at provoking religious sentiments and disrupting local harmony. A formal case has been registered against the accused, and further investigations are underway to determine whether others were involved or if the act is linked to a broader conspiracy.

Security in the surrounding areas has been increased to prevent potential flare-ups, and officials have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to maintain peace. — With inputs from agencies
