August 14 to be Observed as “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day”: P.M. Modi

A day ahead of the Independence Day, the P.M. took to Twitter to announce that the 14th of August would be marked as “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.”

As a result of the British politically decolonizing the Indian Subcontinent, borders were drawn and millions of people had to migrate, which resulted in one of the largest displacement witnessed in the world. While India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15, Pakistan celebrates it on August 14.

“Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” tweeted PM Modi.

“May the #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment,” he added.
