The Regional Passport Office in Srinagar has ordered the impounding of Waheed ur Rehman Parra’s passport, who is the youth president of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Waheed had plans to attend a fellowship program at Yale University in the United States, but this development has disrupted his travel, a spokesperson of the party confirmed to The Kashmiriyat.
The Regional Passport Office cited Section 10(3)(c) of the Passport Act 1967, stating that the passport impoundment was necessary in the interest of India’s sovereignty, integrity, security, and friendly foreign relations.
Waheed was urged to promptly return his passport to the passport office.
He faced challenges in taking the oath as a District Development Council (DDC) member due to his arrest in two terrorism-related cases.
He contested the DDC polls while in jail, and after his release and court orders, he has not yet been administered the oath as a DDC member.
