Banners come up, locals gather at Abdul Rashid’s house in Kunan Poshpora

Several banners have come up in Kupwara’s Kunan Poshpora area after which locals have gathered in large numbers at the residence of a local Abdul Rashid Dar, who had gone missing from Army’s custody in December 2022.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that banners stating that Abdul Rashid has been ‘martyred’ on March 01, 2023, have come up at various places in the Kunan Poshpora locality of Kupwara.

They said  that the family of Abdul Rashid has been called to the police station for the identification of a body that was found under mysterious circumstances in north Kashmir area.

“It will be clear only after the body is checked by the family members of Rashid, where the dead body is of Rashid or not,” they told The Kashmiriyat.

Abdul Rashid, a local youth from Kunan Poshpora was picked up by Government forces on 15 December for questioning, but he escaped from the custody of the forces, police had said.

The family denouncing the claims had staged protests in Srinagar and other areas to demand the whereabouts of Abdul Rashid Bhat.

Meanwhile, several women have gathered at the house of Abdul Rashid in the Kupwara district۔

The Kashmiriyat tried to contact the local in-charge police officer over the matter, however, he disconnected the call without divulging any information.

Official sources said that the body has been taken to the hospital for the completion of medical legal formalities.
