The Jammu Kashmir admin on Tuesday renamed famous Baramulla chowk in north Kashmir after the name of a Slain cop Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh.
Mudasir Ahmad, a 32-year-old policeman, was killed during an encounter on 25 May, when three Pakistani militants were also killed during an encounter in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
The foundation stone was laid by the Director General of Jammu Kashmir Police, Dilbagh Singh who paid tributes to the slain cop.
He said that the number of local militants active in Kashmir has been reduced to two digits while a “minuscule number of foreigners were active who are being tracked down.”
“As far as the status of militancy is concerned, the number of active local militants has been brought to just two digits. Very less foreign militants are active as of now,” DGP Singh said.
Speaking to the press Mudasir Ahmed’s father said, “he is extremely thankful to the Police and is proud of his son having died in the line of the duty.”
In August, The Kashmiriyat reported the Manoj Sinha-led administration has announced the renaming of 199 schools/colleges and roads by the names of “eminent” personalities and the force personnel killed in the line of duty.
