BJP MLA T Raja Singh was detained by the police on Tuesday morning after widespread protests in Hyderabad over Raja’s derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammad.
A case is booked against him at Dabeerpura police station under 153, 153A, 188, 121, 295A, 298, 505 (1) (B) (C), 505 (2) and 506 of IPC.
Raja had released a 10-minute video allegedly making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. Taking a swipe at comedian Munawar Faruqui, whose show he unsuccessfully tried to disrupt recently, he said it was a “comedy” video just like Mr Faruqui’s alleged videos on Hindu gods.
He asked why the insult of Ram and Sita could pass off as comedy but not of other figures revered by other communities.
As the video surfaced on Facebook page, scores of people descended on different police stations and also at Commissioner’s office and started to protest. They were taken into preventive custody in the morning and shifted to Kanchanbagh police station.
