Bone-Chilling cold grips Kashmir: Larnoo in Kokernag claims coldest spot at Minus 17.7°C

In a chilling turn of events, the region of South Kashmir, along with parts of the Jammu region and Sonamarg, has experienced an unprecedented cold wave, shattering records with plummeting temperatures.

Larnoo, situated in Kokernag, claimed the dubious title of the coldest spot, registering a bone-chilling -17.7°C. This extreme cold wave has left the area gripped in icy conditions, with Sonamarg closely following at -15.1°C, reported Kashmir Weather.

The frigid embrace of winter has manifested in a stark contrast across various locales in the Kashmir region. Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a chilly -0.3°C, while Qazigund and Kokernag shivered at -9.4°C.

Pahalgam, nestled in the picturesque landscape, experienced a frosty -11.9°C, adding to the pervasive cold. Gulmarg, known for its snow-capped beauty, saw temperatures drop to -12.0°C, creating an ethereal yet challenging environment.

The impact of this biting cold extended to Jammu, where temperatures in the capital reached a comparatively milder 5.7°C.

However, other areas like Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah faced more significant drops, with temperatures plummeting to -6.8°C, -3.8°C, and -5.2°C, respectively.

The winter freeze also reached Ladakh, with Leh registering -9.4°C and Kargil at -11.5°C, underlining the widespread nature of this unrelenting cold spell.

On February 2nd, Jammu and Kashmir will experience a continuation of weather patterns influenced by a Western Disturbance. Expect ongoing rain and snow activities throughout the region, with central and south Kashmir potentially receiving less precipitation during daylight hours.

On February 3rd and 4th, a light to moderate Western Disturbance is forecasted to influence the region, bringing colder temperatures and the potential for light to moderate snowfall in the plains of Kashmir.
