
Police in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district booked 14 notorious drug smugglers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act this year.
Police said that it registered 77 cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the district this year alone. In the process, 127 individuals involved in various drug-related offenses were taken to custody.
Police as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that besides arrests, it seized a significant cache of drugs, and prevented their penetration within the community.
Meanwhile, in a recent development, Budgam police arrested a notorious drug smuggler identified as Ashfaq Rehman Khan of Sheikhpora Budgam. The said drug smuggler has been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Budgam. Khan as per the police was involved in promoting and supplying drugs to the local youth. [KNT]
