The Village Defense Guard who was injured in intial exchange of fire in Chochru Gala heights with militants succumbed here in a hospital, officials said. Officials told GNS that the VDG who was critically injured after brief gunfight broke out between militants and security this morning succumbed in a hospital. He was been identified as Mohammad Shareef (48) son of Abdul Rehman resident of Lower Ponar, Basantgarh Udhampur. More reinforcement has already reached to the spot and whole area has been cordoned off, the official said. The terrain is difficult as its on heigh altitude, so the operation to flush out militants will take longer time, the official added.(GNS)

A man, brother of a Territorial Army personnel, was killed after unknown gunmen, suspected to be militants, fired upon their residence in Sharda Shrief area of Thanamandi in Rajouri district on Monday night. Official sources told GNS that militants opened fire at the residence of TA personnel in Kunda village near Sharda Sharief , resulting in critical injuries to his brother identified as Mohammad Razak son of Mohammad Akbar. He was immediately shifted to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, they said. Razaq, 40, was working in Social Welfare Department, they said. Six labourers from Waltangoo area of Kund in South Kashmir's Kulgam district were killed and as many sustained injuries when their vehicle fell into a gorge near Sunni in Shimla district on Monday morning, sources said. The mishap took place at Kararghat, about 35 km from here, when the driver of the ill-fated pickup truck lost control of the vehicle. Six labourers died on the spot while The injured are undergoing treatment at the Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCH). The deceased were identified as Farid (24), Gulab (43), Sahbir (19), Talib (23), Gulzar (30), and Mustak (30), Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi told. The Public Safety act of Kashmiri journalist Sajad Gul has been quashed by the High court of Jammu Kashmir. Sajad was arrested in January 2022. The court order accessed by The Kashmiriyat was passed by Justice M.A Choudary on November 09 read the grounds of detention, as such, are general allegations against the detenu, with no specific instance/ incident. The detention order based on such vague grounds is not sustainable, for the reason that the detaining authority, before passing the order, has not applied its mind to draw subjective satisfaction to order prevention detention of the detenu by curtailing his liberty which is a valuable and cherishable right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India,  the Court observed. Security forces in north Kashmir's Handwara found a suspicious object, following which traffic has been suspended on the national highway, sources said. Sources told New Agency Kashmir Scroll that the Army's road opening party (ROP) found a suspicious object in the Ganapora area of Kralgund in Handwara this morning. The Army team raised an alert, after which more teams of the Army and police reached the site. Following this, the movement of vehicles on the highway was suspended as a precautionary measure, sources said. Sources further said that the Bomb Disposal Squad of the Army had been called in for an examination of the suspicious object. (KS) More details are awaited.

Shabir Khan One Policeman has been killed, three others injured in a militant on Friday afternoon in the main town of Bandipora in North Kashmir. Officials told The Kashmiriyat, militants hurled a grenade at a patrol of CRPF and Police near Nishat park in the Nabripora area of Bandipora town, resulting in injuries to four government force personnel. "Four cops injured in the attack have been shifted to the hospital for treatment," they said. One of the cops identified as Zubair Ahmed (special police officer), a resident of Papchan Bandipora succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, the official said. The three casualties reported from the Jammu division in Kashmir on Friday were all vaccinated, officials said. The three who died of Covid 19 were fully vaccinated, they were co-morbid, the doctors said. A 64-year-old man from Ramkote in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district, a 93-year-old male from Karan Nagar in Udhampur, and a 56-year-old man from Jedhi in Pouni area of Reasi district succumbed to COVID-19 in the Jammu region on Friday.

General Rawat’s Chopper Crash- 13 out of 14 people on board confirmed dead

13 out of a total 14 people on board have been confirmed dead in the chopper crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday afternoon. The Air Force helicopter, with CDS General Bipin Rawat and some of his family members on board, crashed in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor, as per reports. The fatal crash left 13 people dead out of a total of 14 people on board dead. However, there is still no information on General Bipin Rawat. As per the officials in Nilgris- the area where the crash occurred, 13 out of the fourteen people have been found dead. "There is a male survivor, who is being treated at the hospital with burn injuries," he said. The search and rescue operations have been closed, the official said. Details emerging  

Grenade attack in Chanapora, CRPF man, lady suffer minor injuries

A Paramilitary trooper of Central Reserve Police Force and a lady were injured after militants lobbed a grenade on security forces in Chanapora area of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Friday. A senior Police officer while confirming to GNS said that militants lobbed a grenade towards CRPF BN 29 in Chanapora. The Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has passed away late on Wednesday evening. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the senior Hurriyat leader passed away at his residence in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar. The family members of Geelani as per news reports too have confirmed the demise of the Hurriyat leader. Born in 1929, Geelani was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He has served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of pro-separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He quit the Hurriyat in June 2020.
