Petrol prices hiked by 80 Paise, Fourth hike in 5 days

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 80 paise a litre each today, the fourth increase in five days as oil firms passed on to consumers the spike in cost of raw material. Petrol in Delhi will now cost ₹ 98.61 per litre as against ₹ 97.81 previously while diesel rates have gone up from ₹ 89.07 per litre to ₹ 89.87, according to a price notification of state fuel retailers. All the four increases since the ending of a four-and-half-month long hiatus in rate revision on March 22, have been of 80 paise a litre. Domestic cooking gas (or LPG) price was hiked by ₹ 50 per cylinder on Tuesday, according to media reports. A 14.2-kg non-subsidized LPG cylinder will now cost ₹ 1065 in Srinagar, ₹ 949.50 in Delhi, marking the first increase in LPG rates since early October. The 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs ₹ 2003.50.

The price of LPG, used by hotels and other commercial establishments, was on Tuesday hiked by Rs 105 to its second-highest level but rates of subsidized gas sold to households remained on freeze. The price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder has been hiked to Rs 2,012 from Rs 1,907, according to price notification from state-owned fuel retailers. This is the second-highest rate, after Rs 2,101 per cylinder in December 2021. LPG rates are revised on the 1st of every month based on the price of benchmark fuel in the previous month. However, the price of domestic cooking gas LPG, sold to households, has not been changed since October when it rose to Rs 899.50 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
