Motorist, pillion rider killed in Anantnag road accident

A motorist and his pillion rider were killed in a road accident in Mattan area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the scooty was hit by a vehicle near a grid station Hutmurah, resulting in spot death to the motorist, while his pillion rider was injured. He said that the injured was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he also succumbed to his injuries. The deceased have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Malik and Riyaz Ahmad Hajam--both residents of Shimhal, Anantnag. Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident—(KNO)

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) has warned all the private schools of action for misleading parents and the students over their affiliation with the Board. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Secretary JKBOSE has issued a circular to all private academic institutions affiliated with them, cautioning against the use of misleading hoardings. As per the circular, the private schools have been accused of duping unsuspecting students by using hoardings that falsely indicate they are affiliated with other recognized boards or imparting studies on other patterns. Tabasum Shaikh, who was a victim of Hijab controversy raised by right wing hindutva men in Karnataka has secured the second rank in the Karnataka PUC exam. Last year, Karnataka was marred by riots over the hijab after some students in rural Karnataka expressed concern over students wearing Hijab to the college. The Muslim students protested demanding that they should be allowed to wear Hijab to the classes. Later, the Karnataka High Court ruled that hijab and burqa are not required in educational institutions and the dress code of the educational institution is sufficient. Many female students protested in the streets wearing burqa and hijab. Tabassum also secured 100 out of 100 marks in Hindi, Psychology and Sociology.
