The dropout rate of students in several districts, particularly among Schedule Tribe (ST) communities, is very high at all school levels across Jammu Kashmir. According to the official documents of the Ministry of Education (MoE) available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “The annual average dropout rate at the secondary level in the year 2020-21 was 3 percent.” “However, it is important to note that the dropout rate among the ST children is still very high,” MoE said. In Jammu Kashmir, more than 22 percent of schools at Primary Level and six percent at Upper Primary Level schools have either surplus teachers or a deficit of students. Besides, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has more than 10,000 surplus teachers in government-run-schools. Jamia Millia Islamia University on Friday, imposed a ban on two NSUI student leaders for celebrating India's 75th year of Independence inside the campus, Maktoob media reported. By a ‘disciplinary action’ taken by the Proctor office, NS Abdul Hameed, PhD scholar at Mass Communication department and BA political science second-year student Dibya Jyoti Tripathi are denied their entrance to the campus until August 15th. Both Hameed and Tripathi are the cadres of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress.

The Kashmir university authorities have failed to start the academic session at Kupwara Campus even after two years. Irony is that administration has again announced admission without any communication with the aspirants who had already applied. Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that in 2020 the KU Campus Kupwara had announced academic session for integrated programmes in Physics and Energy Studies for which they also invited applications from students, however even after two years the campus is yet to announce the entrance test. Authorities have decided to conduct the Summative Assessment (SA) of regular exams for only 40 marks for Classes upto 9th standard. However, in the draft it has said that the rest of 60 percent of marks would be assessed on the basis of co-curricular component and non-academic activities. The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) has learnt that the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) have said this in a draft ‘student assessment and evaluation scheme upto 9th classes.
