Aligarh Muslim University to remove Pakistani authors’ books from syllabus: Report

On Monday, India Today reported that Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) managing committee has decided "to remove the books of Pakistani authors Maulana Abul Ala Maududi and Syed Qutub from the syllabus." The report suggests that these books were included in the syllabus of the Department of Islamic Studies, and were taught in AMU’s BA and MA classes. The report quoted a senior AMU staff who said that "This decision has been taken in response to a recent letter that was written by social activist and academician Madhu Kishwar, along with some other academicians, to PM Modi, in which the books of these authors were demanded not to be taught to the students. The B.Ed students of 1st and 2nd Semester Batch (2020-22) registered through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), of the University of Kashmir are demanding their exams be rescheduled which commences on the 10th of August 2022. Jammu & Kashmir Students Movement (JKSM) learnt that the students who are going to appear in the examination in the second week of August are yet to receive the study material from the Directorate of Distance Education. The Zonal Education officer In Nehapora area of Pattan in Baramulla Kashmir has directed students in school students to 'voluntarily' deposit rupees 10 for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Government reduces budget for AMU, Jamia, funds to BHU doubled

The funds to Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University were reduced by almost 15 per cent in the last financial year, 2022-22, in comparison to the previous year, the Ministry of Education stated in response to a question asked by Congress MP T.N. Prathapan. According to details provided by the ministry, Jamia Millia Islamia recorded a decline of nearly Rs 68.73 crore with respect to the fund allocation. The varsity’s fund was reduced from Rs 479.83 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 411.10 crore in 2021-22, Muslim Mirror reported. The allocation for AMU reduced from Rs 1,520.10 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 1,214.63 crore in 2021-22. It marked a decline of nearly Rs 306 crore. After protests, Punjabi University removes content describing Bhindrawale as ‘terrorist’

After protests over a part of the syllabus of M.A political science, the Panjab University has decided to change the content that describes Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a "terrorist". Pertinently, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had raised strong objections to the controversial language used about Bhindranwale. “I came to know about the objectionable content. We will remove it and launch a probe into how it became part of the syllabus,” Satnam Singh Sandhu, head of Distance Education Department of Punjabi University, Patiala told The Indian Express. The controversial reference to Bhindranwale is a part of my M.A in political science (distance mode). The university has also formed a three-member committee to probe the same.

Authorities on Friday announced summer vacations for all government degree colleges of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division from July 09.
