The Government of Jammu  Kashmir on Monday revised the summer vacation schedule for all Government Degree Colleges in the Kashmir Division, advancing the break by nearly three weeks. According to the latest order issued by the Higher Education Department (Order No. 290-JK (HE) of 2025), summer vacations will now be observed from June 24 to July 3, 2025. The earlier schedule had fixed the break from July 15 to July 24. The announcement comes on a day when Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6°C, which is 5.4°C above the normal range for this time of the year. Over 13 lakh students in Jammu Kashmir government schools receive free textbooks and uniforms

In Jammu Kashmir, more than 13 lakh students enrolled in government schools are being provided with free textbooks and uniforms under the Right to Education Act. An official said that under the Act, at least eight lakh students from classes 1 to 8 are receiving free uniforms. The cost of the uniform is Rs 600 per child. The official further said that at least 5.50 lakh students from classes 3 to 5 are being provided with free textbooks. Regarding quality education and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), the official said that 15,550 pre-primary sections have been started in schools across the Union Territory, including PM SHRI Schools. The Kashmir University on Tuesday postponed all examinations scheduled up to and including May 18. In a notification issued by the Assistant Controller examination (Conduct) a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, "All the University examinations scheduled to be held up to and including 18th of May 2025 stand postponed." "Revised dates for the postponed papers shall be available on the official website of the University," it reads.
