High court orders halt in JKSSB selection process

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the High-Level Committee established to examine the operation of the Jammu Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) to submit its findings within ten days. After hearing an argument, a panel led by Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi ordered the JKSSB not to move further with the hiring process for the different positions it had advertised. The selection process has been put on hold while the admin considers its findings and suggestions regarding the High-Level Committee's study of the board's operation, the court said. Allegations of major scam in Health Department of Jammu Kashmir, Officials order probe

A major scam allegedly involving crores of rupees has surfaced in the Health Department of Jammu Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that authorities of the Government Medical Colleges of Doda, Rajouri, Srinagar and G B Pant Hospital in Srinagar have been accused of "swindling" public funds. They said that the officials posted at the aforementioned hospitals had made several purchases without without the availability of funds for the purpose. As per the sources, the hospital officials have been accused of making the purchases from VIGGO Medical Devices India without provision of funds-creation of liability. Degraded quality of education, spiraling unemployment, and increasing health-related concerns are worsening woes in Kashmir valley and have resulted in an increased number of suicides in the region. As of 2020, as per the National Human Rights Commission, suicide has claimed the maximum number of lives in Kashmir after militancy, reported Indian Asian News Service. Over 13 Lakh people are using drugs in Jammu Kashmir and most of them are above 18 years of age. As per a report of Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment an estimated 13.50 lakh people are drug users in Jammu Kashmir and most of them are in the age group of 18 to 75 years.
