An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 hit Assam this morning at 7:41 am. As per the National Center for Seismology, the depth of the earthquake was 10 km from the surface. The earthquake hits Assam amidst the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, when Assam has 10,571 active Covid cases, as per the Assam Covid-19 Dashboard. It has emerged that the epicenter of the earthquake was near Dhekiajuli town, which is located 140 km north of the capital Guwahati. There have been no reports of anyone being injured. A Nagpur-based businessman, Pyare Khan, who runs a transport business has brought about 32 tonnes of oxygen for once crore rupees and supplied it to Government Medical College, Nagpur for the treatment of Covid patients. On Saturday night, the Punjab Police arrested a groom in Jalandhar on his wedding reception party for violating the Covid protocol. The Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar stated that they had to arrest the groom and his father because the reception party, which was happening without any prior permission, was violating the rules of the curfew that was imposed in the state on the weekend due to the rapid rise in the Covid-19 cases. Microblogging site Twitter has deleted 52 tweets flagged by the Central Government for criticizing its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Centre, however, has clarified that the tweets were flagged and deleted not because they were critical, but because they spread ‘fake News’. The tweets reportedly were posted by Congress’ Lok Sabha MP Revanth Reddy, Bengal minister Moloy Ghatak, actor Vineet Kumar Singh and filmmakers Vinod Kapri and Avinash Das.
