Families of Incarcerated Members of Student’s Islamic Movement of India Pens Letter to Organizations for Justice

The relatives of the 31 incarcerated members of the banned Student's Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), have written a letter to several Muslim organizations urging them to pay attention to the “inhuman and barbaric” treatment meted out to their kin allegedly by jail authorities. The letter mentions abuse of physical and mental kind, slapping of false cases, denying of medical facilities, threats and mistreatment of visitors. Among the 31 incarcerated Dr. Abu Faisal, Qamruddin , Kamran, Saduli PA and Shibily, have been on hunger strike in Central Jail Bhopal from last month , are surviving on saline water now. ‘They are Vilifying Sikhs Now’- HRW Report Accuses Indian Government of Targeting Minorities

Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Friday accused the Indian government of adopting laws and policies that “systematically discriminate against Muslims and stigmatize critics of the government.” HRW’s report came days ahead 23rd of February, which marks the first anniversary of the violence in New Delhi, where 53 people were killed, 40 of them were Muslims. The violence came after protests started against India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed in 2019 that excludes Muslims. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that Hoshangabad will now be known as Narmadapuram. "Cities situated on the banks of Narmada river will be developed naturally, we will not allow cement concrete forests to be built there. Hoshangabad will now be known as Narmadapuram," he said in a tweet in Hindi. This comes after the Chief Minister performed 'arti' on the banks of the Narmada river on the occasion of Narmada Jayanti in Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad today. Bengal Court Issues Warrant Against Amit Shah for ‘Defamatory Remarks’

On Friday, a designated MP/MLA court in West Bengal issued summons to Union home minister Amit Shah and he has to appear either personally or through a lawyer before it on February 22 in connection with a defamation case lodged against him by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. The judge directed that Shah’s attendance either personally or through a lawyer is necessary to answer to a charge of defamation under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code. In a press note, Abhishek Banerjee’s lawyer Sanjay Basu claimed that Shah had made certain defamatory statements against the TMC MP on August 11, 2018 at a rally of the BJP at Mayo Road in Kolkata.

Two Dalit Teenage Girls Found Dead in Uttar Pradesh

On Wednesday, two teenaged Dalit girls were found dead in a field in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. The police said it is a suspected case of poisoning. Another 17-year-old girl was also found from the same spot and was in critical condition. The incident occurred in Babura village under the Asoha police station in Unnao district. The girls had gone to bring fodder for their cattle. When they did not return by evening, some family members went looking for them, and found them lying in their field in an unconscious state, the police said.
