The Indian government is considering a proposal mooted by China to reduce tensions at the Line of Actual Control. The defence and security establishment refused to give details about the proposal, saying it remains “highly confidential”. On Friday, Pakistan initiated heavy firing and shelling on Indian positions and forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Mankote sector of Poonch district, prompting India to retaliate in equal measure. India retaliated to the firing. Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said, at about 0515 hours (5:15 am), Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and then switching over to mortar shelling along the LoC in Mankote sector.
