Kerala Floods- Death Toll Rises to 173, Thousands, 2 Lakh Displaced

August 18 The incessant rains and floods continued to wreak havoc in Kerala with the death toll due to the worst flooding in nearly a century crossing 170, with thousands missing. Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala continued to be the worst affected in the last 24 hours as thousands of people are trapped in their homes in the towns of Ranni, Aranmula and Kozhencherry. Swami Agnivesh Assaulted on way to Pay tributes to Vajpayee

August 18 Prominent Social activist Swami Agnivesh was abused and thrashed outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi when was on way to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away yesterday (friday). Soon after Swani Agnivesh went to the BJP office, a group of persons started raising slogans against him, asking him to go back. Soon he was chased by a group of people, believed to be Bharatiya Janata Party workers, who later assaulted him. Delhi Police then whisked away Agnivesh to safety in a van.

August 17 The incessant rains and floods continued to wreak havoc in Kerala with the death toll due to the worst flooding in nearly a century crossing 100 and Many are feared missing. August 16 A Former prime minister of India and a parliamentarian for over 40 years, Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on Thursday at the AIIMS where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June. “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05pm on 16.08.2018,” AIIMS said in a statement on Thursday. August 13 An unidentified man reportedly opened fire at Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid outside Constitution Club of India on Rafi Marg in the national capital on Monday, police said. Khalid escaped unhurt. The student had arrived at the club to attend an event titled “Khauff Se Azaadi” organised by an organisation named “United Against Hate”. August 11 A 77-year-old man, a temple priest, was arrested today for allegedly molesting a woman in Kalyan area in the district, police said. Gopal Tambe, the accused, was booked under section 354 of IPC (molestation), said assistant police inspector S S Rajput of Kolsewadi police station. 19 Killed as Rains Create Havoc in Kerala

August 09 At least 19 people have been killed in Rain related incidents in Kerala since Wednesday, as it continued to pour in several parts of the South Indian state. According to the state disaster control room, 11 people have been killed in Idukki, five in Malappuram, two in Kannur and one in Wayanad. Five members of a family at Adimali in Idukki were killed after their house was destroyed in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Hassan Koya's wife Fatima, their son Mujeeb, his wife Shameena, children Diya Fatima and Diya Sana. Landslides have also been reported from Kalikkavu, Nilambur and Karuvarakund. It is feared that many families have been isolated.
