October 20 A 70-year-old man was allegedly stoned to death by some monkeys in a village here, putting the police in a fix as the deceased’s family wants an FIR to be registered against them. The incident took place on October 17 in Tikri village of the district. Circle officer Ramala Rajiv Pratap Singh told PTI that the deceased was sleeping near a pile of bricks when some monkeys jumped on the bricks. The pile of bricks collapsed and fell on Dharampal, leaving him injured. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed. October 17 A seven-year-old girl, who was returning home from her school, was allegedly raped by a man in Haryana’s Rewari district, police said Wednesday. The man grabbed the child and took her to the fields and raped her there on Tuesday, they said. The girl was profusely bleeding when she reached home, police said. She narrated the ordeal to her mother following which police were informed, they added. The child was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, police said. A case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused, they said. The girl’s parents are said to be migrant labourers.

October 17 A 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour when she was sleeping in her house at Kakroli village in the district, police said. According to a complaint lodged by the woman, she alleged that the accused entered her house and took her to a nearby jungle, where she was raped at gun point, they said. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident, police said. The woman has been sent for medical examination, they said, adding that a case against has been registered against the accused, who is absconding. (PTI)

October 16 Continuing the trend of low voter turnout, only 1.8 per cent of electorate cast their votes in the first four hours of polling in Kashmir during the fourth and final phase of urban bodies elections Tuesday, officials said. In Srinagar Municipal Corporation, only 3,997 of the 2.42 lakh voters cast their votes in 24 wards so far, the officials said. They said the turnout was better in Ganderbal where 6.2 per cent of the 8,908 voters exercised their franchise during the same period. October 11 Four Kashmiri students have been arrested from Punjab state over their alleged involvement in militancy on Wednesday. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that Zahid Gulzar, Idris Shah and Rafiq Bhatt were arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police and Punjab police for having alleged links with militancy. “The students were linked to AGH and JeM militant outfits,” the Police said, adding that “Arms, ammunitions, and explosives were recovered from their possession.” Meanwhile, police have taken them for questioning and further investigations are going on.

October 02 A seven-year-old boy was killed and nine people, including his mother, were injured in a low-intensity explosion in front of a multi-storey building in the Nagerbazar area in Kolkata’s northern suburbs on Tuesday, police said. “A child, who was severely injured in the blast, has died in hospital. A total of nine people are injured,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore Commissionerate, Ananda Roy said.
