February 11 The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said cow has been an important part of India’s tradition and culture and his government has taken several steps to improve the health of cattle. Speaking at an event here, Modi said cow has been a vital element of the rural economy. “We cannot repay the debt of cow’s (gau mata) milk. Cow is an important element of India’s tradition and culture,” Modi said. He stressed his government has taken several steps to improve the health of cattle and started the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. In the Union Budget, Modi said, his government has also taken a decision to establish ‘Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog’ with an allocation of Rs 500 crore. PTI

February 11 The Indian Defence Minister on Monday said that Indian Army will airlift passengers stranded due to the blockade of Highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar. Nirmala Sitharman tweeted, "Army to help air-lift stranded students & others from Jammu to Srinagar & viceversa. Inclement weather affected their movement. Acknowledge the phone call of @MehboobaMufti on this matter. Depressed Engineering Officer Commits Suicide in Delhi

February 10 A 25-year-old Indian Engineering Services (IES) officer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room in southwest Delhi’s Munirka area, police said. The deceased has been identified as Pranav Tiwari, a native of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh, they added. Tiwari was living with his three batchmates — Dheeraj Pandey, Devender Patel and Vivek — in Munirka, police said. On Saturday evening, Pandey and Patel had gone to Saket Mall and Vivek had left for his native place. Pranav was alone at the flat, a senior police officer said. Indian Army to Induct 6000 Snipers Along LOC

February 09 The Indian Army is planning to induct 6000 sniper rifles and other modernized equipments along the Line of Control which divides Jammu Kashmir between India and Pakistan. A report published on Daily Excelsior quoting sources said that Army would be inducting about 6000 sniper rifles along LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region and Baramulla and Kupwara in Kashmir during next few months. “Army has a target of purchasing around 6000 sniper rifles for the soldiers deployed all along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. The induction process has begun with arrival of some of the weapons from global suppliers. 33 Injured as Bus Falls in a Gorge in Himachal

February 04 Thirty-three people were injured after a private bus fell into a gorge at Gopalpur in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Monday, a district official said. The condition of eleven of them is critical. Ten of them have been referred to the Tanda Medical College and one to a hospital in the district’s Palampur sub-division, he added. The others injured are being treated at a hospital in Gopalpur, he added. The accident took place after the bus — registration number HP28B1989 — of the Jawahar Bus Service fell into the gorge near Gopalpur Monday morning, he added. (PTI)
