Husband Stabbed to Death by Wife, Paramour in India’s UP

January 20 A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his wife with the help of her paramour, police said Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday night when the man, identified as Sunil Kumar, was sleeping in his house at Shahpur town here, Circle Officer Hariram Yadav said. A case was registered against Kumar’s wife Sudha and her paramour, and they both were arrested, he said. Kumar was killed for allegedly opposing his wife’s “relationship” with another man, the officer said. Police have recovered a knife which was allegedly used to commit the crime, he added. (PTI)

Six Brother Booked for Murdering BJP Leader

January 19 Six brothers were booked for allegedly killing a BJP councillor in Ambajogai in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said Saturday. Councillor Vijay Shesherao Jogdand (34) was killed Friday night when he intervened in a dispute between the accused and his younger brother Nitin, police said.. When Nitin was near Samta Nagar area around 8pm Friday, six brothers came there and attacked him owing to some previous enmity. When councillor Vijay Jogdand intervened, he was attacked with a sword. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries,” the official added. Additional Superintendent of Police Ajit Borhade said two of the six siblings have been arrested and efforts were on to nab the rest.

January 18 Two Kashmiri boys were ruthlessly beaten by a group of people in Kufri area of Shimla. Zaffar Iqbal and Arshad Khan, the residents of Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, respectively were beaten by the mob on January 10, Pir Panchal post reported on Friday. The report said that during a trip to Kufri, Shimla, a group of people tried to kill the two boys after abusing them and calling names to “Kashmiris”. “They called us Kashmiri terrorists and abused all Kashmiris,” said one of the two victims. Extreme Weather Conditions Killed at least 1400 people in India in 2018

January 17 A total of 1,428 people died due to extreme weather events in 2018 with heavy rains and subsequent flooding, dust storms, thunderstorms and lightening claiming half the lives, a top government official said Wednesday. The year was also the sixth warmest year on record, M Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences said. “Extreme weather events over country during 2018. The year 2018 was the sixth warmest year on record since nationwide records commenced in 1901. The other five warmest years are 2016, 2009, 2017, 2010 and 2015, all recent years,” he said on Twitter. 2 die after fall while flying kites in Hyderabad

January 16 A 11-year-old boy and a man died while another boy was injured after falling from buildings in separate kite flying incidents here in the past three days In the fatal incident, the boy fell from the third floor of a building in Habeebnagar. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital on Monday. In another incident on Sunday, a 27-year-old man, a scrap dealer, suffered head injuries. He had fallen from the terrace of a two-storied building while flying kite in Warasiguda. He died on the same day at a hospital without responding to treatment. A nine-year-old boy who was flying kite suffered injuries after he slipped and fell down from the second-floor of a building. Police said that he had been hospitalized.

Over 2,300 women to Perform Hajj this year without ”Mehram”: Naqvi

January 16 Over 2,300 Muslim women from India will go on Haj this year without ‘Mehram’ or male companion as all those who applied under this category have been exempted from the lottery system, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said Wednesday. The Modi government had last year allowed women going to Haj without Mehram, which had resulted in about 1,300 Muslim women going for the pilgrimage without any male companion. JNU Sedition Row- Seven Kashmiris Named in Chargesheet

January 15 Seven Kashmiri students were among those against whom the Delhi Police has submitted a charge sheet in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sedition case at the Patiala House Courts. The JNU Sedition row case pertains to raising of “freedom for Kashmir” and “anti-India” slogans at an event on the campus against the hanging of Afzal Guru.   In the charge sheet, the police also named 36 students, including student Kanhaiya Kumar, Syed Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. The Kashmiris booked in the sedition row include students of Universities in Delhi (at the time of registration of the case) and a freelance writer are among the seven Kashmiris named in the charge sheet.
