On Wednesday, four Kashmiri students of Law Department of Amity University in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, were allegedly harassed by locals and later detained by Noida police. The four students were detained after they approached the police on being roughed up by locals outside hostel. "Rather than questioning and apprehending the accused responsible for the harassment, the police detained four boys who were subjected to physical aggression,” Jammu Kashmir Students’ Association said on Thursday. Fake news has been circulating widely on social media which falsely attributes a quote to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud that has been flagged by the PRO of the Supreme Court today. The post in question says that the post-CJI has appealed to the public to unite and come out on the streets to fight for their rights against a ‘dictatorial government’. In the press note, the PRO clarified that the social media post is ill-intended and with a malafide intention of defaming the CJI as it was not issued by the CJI or anyone authorized by him. The PRO clearly said that no such post has been issued by the Chief Justice of India nor has he authorised any such post. As per Live Law, the Central Government on Friday is likely to introduce bills to replace the Indian Penal Code, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act. The report further said that the bills have been named Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakshya Bill. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) is, till date, the official criminal code of India. It is a comprehensive code intended to cover all substantive aspects of criminal law.
