Danishwar Hameed An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in Awahatoo area of Kulgam district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday afternoon, 34 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly laid a cordon a search operation in the Awatoo area Kulgam district on a specific information generated by police. During the cordon, the hiding militant opened fire on forces triggering an encounter. As per locals, massive gunfire is underway at the site of the encounter.  

17-year-old youth goes missing from Bijbehara area

A 17-year-old youth from the Bijbehara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district has gone missing. Owais Gulzar, 17, son of Gulzar Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Bijbehara has been missing since 21st September, his family members told The Kashmiriyat. “He had a friend in Srinagar, he went there for work,” a family member said. “From Srinagar, he has gone to Kangan and has passed a night in Dar ul uloom at Wussun on 13th September. The Dar ul uloom authorities said that we gave him some receipt books for collecting money,” he added. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Jammu and Kashmir visit on October 1 and 2 has been postponed and that he will now arrive on October 4, Official sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). A BJP leader privy to the development said that due to some engagements, Union Home Minister’s J&K visit has been postponed. “Now he will arrive on October 4 on two-day J&K visit,” he said, adding that Shah will visit Rajouri and address a rally there. Woman injured in Bear Attack in Uttersoo, Anantnag

A woman was hospitalized after a black bear attacked her in Uttersoo village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district this morning, officials said. They told GNS that one Shamema Begum, wife of Mushtaq Ahmed Hajam was outside her house when the beast attacked her. Alerted by the cries, the family and locals came to her rescue and chased away the wild animal, they said. The woman was subsequently taken to SDH Shangus for treatment, they further said. The gravity of injuries however couldn’t be known at the time of filing of this report. (GNS)

Weather department on Tuesday forecast mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir during next 24 hours. A meteorological department official here told GNS that isolated light rain and thunder was expected in the next two days. As regards the mercury, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 11.6°C against 14.6°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.2°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said. Qazigund recorded a low of 9.4°C against 9.0°C on the previous night. Halting of fruit-laden trucks on Srinagar-Jammu national highway has taken a heavy toll on Asia's second largest Fruit Mandi in Sopore, with Mandi administration stating that they have suffered around Rs 500 crore loss in the month of September alone. Earlier an official had told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday evening Government forces including RR of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Batpora. During the searches, the militants opened fire on the Forces which led to a gunfight. One militant identified as Abu Hurrah of Pakistan has been killed in the encounter, officials said. Two civilians and an army trooper were injured in an ongoing encounter at Batpora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, officials said. Fruit growers protest against Admin in Srinagar
