Apple growers fear losses as packing material cost increases abruptly

In a major setback to the Kashmir most vital industry horticulture, the prices of packing material of apples have increased abruptly due to which apple growers fear losses. Growers across Kashmir while talking to news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the cost of packing material has increased by around 30 to 40 percent in Kashmir in last few days only due to which growers are fearing losses. Fayaz Ahmad an apple grower from Shopian said that usually they would purchase wooden apple boxes alias 70 to 80 rupees but this time same boxes are being sold alias 110 to 130 rupees. A Special Police Officer (SPO) on Tuesday allegedly bludgeoned his pregnant wife to death in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Reports reaching KDC said that accused SPO Mohan Lal is absconding and his house was set ablaze by some angry villagers. Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Ramesh Chander Kotwal said special teams have been formed to arrest the accused. A teenage girl was among two people, who attempted to end their lives in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday, officials said here. He said that people present on the spot rescued her and shifted her to district hospital Kulgam in a critical condition, where she is being treated. A BJP leader was found hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances in Jammu Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday, officials said. A villager saw the body of Som Raj hanging from a tree at some distance from his house in Hiranagar town in the morning and informed the police, they said. The body, which had blood marks, was sent to a hospital for post-mortem, the officials said. Sources said Raj was missing for the past three days. Police have lodged a case and initiated investigation, the officials said. Raj's family alleged that he was was murdered and demanded that the government should provide justice to them. Many BJP leaders, who visited Raj's home, demanded a probe into his death.–(PTI)

The death toll from the August 11 militant attack on an Army camp in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir rose to seven after a havaldar who was undergoing treatment succumbed to his injuries, officials said. A court in Jammu on Tuesday issued a bailable warrant against Rubaiya Sayeed, after she did not appear for her cross—examination by JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik, whom she had identified as her abductor during last hearing of the case. Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Advocate Monika Kohli, special public prosecutor for CBI, said that Rubaiya Sayeed did not appear in the TADA court for her cross examination by the accused. “The Court has issued a bailable warrant against her and directed her to remain present on the next date of hearing scheduled on September 21,” she said.
