A sense of insecurity has prevailed among the locals of Naseem Bagh area of Summer capital Srinagar after burglary incident in the area and failure of police to nab the accused despite the passing of three months. “Burglars looted gold worth lakhs and also took away cash meant for Zakat from a house of a retired professor in the area on the intervening night of April 8 and 9 this year,” said locals. “The theft took place when Prof Noor Muhammad Bilal and his wife, who is also a professor at Kashmir University, were performing Umrah in Ramadhan. While light rains lashed parts of Kashmir Valley, most parts of Jammu division recorded downpour in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday. The weatherman has forecast more light to moderate showers in J&K in next 24 hours even as he said “no major rain” was expected in JK in the next five days. A meteorological department official here said that very heavy rain occurred since early morning with Jammu receiving 198mm followed by Reasi (152mm), Samba (105mm), Katra (77.8mm), kathua (8.2mm), Bhaderwah (1.7mm), Banihal (0.8) while Srinagar received 1.0mm, Qazigund 0.4mm while Kokernag had traces. A 28-year-old youth From Hanjiwera Pattan was on Thursday found dead under mysterious circumstances in Delhi. A suicide attack on the Indian Army camp in Rajouri was foiled on Wednesday after the security forces killed two militants in an encounter in the Pargal area of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the 11 Rajasthan Rifles, the two militants were spotted crossing the fence of the Army camp at Pargal, which is located around 6 km from the Darhal police station. The jawans deployed in the area retaliated against the infiltration attempt and an encounter broke out with the militants. Teenager drowns to death while taking bath in Rajouri village

A teenage boy drowned to death while taking a bath in Jhori Nallah in Dandote village of Rajouri district on Wednesday evening, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the boy identified as Umar Farooq (17) son of Mohammad Farooq of Gabbar village was returning from school at around 3:30 when he decided to take a bath in Jhori Nallah near Hayan bridge. He said that the boy drowned while taking a both the Nallah and soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched to retrieve his body. He added that his body was later retrieved from the water body at around 7:15 pm in the evening. A 14-year-old boy drowned in river Jhelum in Nawakadal area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening, officials said here.
