A cordon and search operation has been launched in the Tangpawa area of Sagam in Kokernag belt in south Kashmir's Anantnag district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that 19 RR of the Indian Army, and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Tangpawa area, following inputs about the militant presence in the area. A search operation was going on in the area when this report was being filed. Pertinently, Tangpawa in Kokernag is the native of the longest surviving militant commander Mohammed Ashraf Khan alias Molvi, who is an associate of Hizb ul Mujahideen.

A man, who was arrested in 2017 in connection with an attack on a security forces camp in the Banihal area of Ramban district, was detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) on Thursday after he was found to be in contact with some suspect individuals in Kashmir Valley, officials said. Mohammad Ibrahim Gujjar was slapped with the PSA after the District Magistrate of Ramban in approved a dossier against him filed by the police, they said. A youth died on Thursday afternoon when a scooty he was riding was hit by a vehicle in central Kashmir's Budgam district. 4-year-old girl was critically injured after stray dogs attacked her outside the home in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The incident occurred at Atina village of Beerwah. Local sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the girl identified as Arifa Ali had ventured outside her home when the stray dogs pounced upon her. The dogs after the attack tried to drag her, however, the locals managed to rescue her from their clutches. “She has sustained deep wounds in the body especially in her legs,” a doctor at Sub-District Hospital Beerwah said. A 45-year-old motor mechanic died in the Kupwara district as the air compressor at his tyre puncture-mending shop exploded on Thursday, officials said. A police official told GNS that the incident took place near Zunrashi Chowkibal area of the north Kashmir district and the mechanic identified as Dilawar Ahmad Mir died on the spot. On Thursday the body of a youth who went missing last week was recovered under mysterious circumstances in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The delimitation commission is holding a meeting on Thursday morning in New Delhi before unveiling the electoral map of Jammu Kashmir, sources disclosed. Shawwal moon was also not sighted in any part of India, including Pakistan, so far. The Grand Mufti of J&K Nasir-ul-slam said, "Not a single testimony of moon sighting was received so far from any part of J&K, therefore, the 1st of Shawwal 1439 is likely to be on Tuesday, 03 May. Based on local moon sighting, Eid-ul-Fitr will likely to be celebrated on Tuesday 03 May 2022", he said. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the culmination of the month-long Ramadhan. Shawwal is the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
