CRPF Bunker Attacked in Srinagar, Police Recoveres Arms and Ammunition

January 11 The Jammu Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have recovered following arms and ammunition from a vehicle in Lawaypora area of Srinagar. Detailing the incident Police said that during a Naka checking in Srinagar, a Maruti vehicle bearing the registration number JK13 C  2094 was stopped near Dilshan Hotel Lawaypora, Srinagar.   Upon checking the vehicle two rifles, one AK 47, one Insas and One hand Grenade and a cash of  5 lakh was recovered from the possession of two people in the vehicle. The two persons were also taken into detention by the Jammu Kashmir Police. Meanwhile unknown persons on Friday night hurled a grenade of CRPF camp (132 BN) located near Palladium cinema in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar. Details of the incidents are awaited.

Kashmir Highway Blocked After Fresh Snowfall

January 11 The vehicular movement on the highway connecting Jammu with Srinagar has been temporarily suspended due to fresh snowfall at various places including the Jawahar tunnel. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that the traffic on the highway has been suspended as a precautionary measure due to fresh snowfall on both sides of the Banihal Shaitan Nalah and Jawahar tunnel.   "The area has recorded several inches of snowfall since Thursday night and we have ordered clearance of the highway however vehicular movement has been suspended on both sides as of now," the traffic official said. He said it is likely to take a few hours to restore traffic.

One Militant Slain in Tral Encounter

January 05 One Militants has been killed in the ongoing joint operation of Government Forces against them in Aripal area of Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama District. December 29 The Kashmir valley yet another cold night as the  temperatures dipped to Minus 7.2 degrees Celsius in the Summer capital of Jammu Kashmir. A MET Department official told that the cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another four to five days with chances of snow in the first week of January. Pahalgam recorded temperature at minus 8.3 degree Celsius while it was minus 7 degree Celsius in Gulmarg. Even the maximum temperature recorded in Drass on Friday did not rise above the freezing point as it settled at minus 5.5 degree.

December 22 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Hassanpora area of  Arwani in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. On the afternoon of Saturday, the forces including  RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir police sealed all the entry and exit points to the Arwani area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this Islamabad (Anantnag) area locality and are conducting a search operation in the area. December 20 The Government Forces on Thursday launched a cordon and search operation in Goripora area of Bomai in Sopore of North Kashmir’s Baramulla District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat, the forces including 21 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police sealed all the entry and exit points to the Goripora area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a heavy contingent of forces reached this Sopore locality and are conducting a massive search operation in the area. Pulwama Records 1.4 Per cent, Islamabad (Anantnag) records 24 per cent

December 11 The final phase of Panchayat polls  concluded on Tuesday with an overall 38.8 percent voter turnout in Kashmir. The polls which started from 8am till 2pm was held at 452 polling stations in Kashmir. Kupwara witnessed 53.6 percent, Bandipora 46 percent, Baramulla 38.9 percent, Ganderbal 20.9 percent, Budgam 38.8 percent, Pulwama 1.4 percent and Anantnag 24.8 percent. 430 candidates were in fray for 55 Sarpanch and 138 Panch seats while 68 Sarpanchs and 433 Panchs were elected unopposed in this phase. The polls which began last month was conducted in nine phases.

November 27 The Encounter that had raged in Redwani in the early hours of Tuesday has ended with the killing of two militants and one Army man in this Kulgam area of South Kashmir. Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the joint operation was being conducted by 1 RR of Indian Army, SOG of Jammu Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force. The forces had laid a siege around the Redwani area after receiving credible inputs about the presence of two Militants in the area, who during the search operation opened fire upon Forces, triggering a gunfight. October 21 Thousands of people reached Kulgam and Shopian Districts to attend the funeral of three Militants killed in the encounter that triggered early morning on Sunday in Laroo area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District.
