Grenade attack on CRPF in Tral: Police

Suspected militants on Wednesday hurled a grenade on a CRPF Bunker in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. A top police officer told GNS that militants lobbed grenade on a Bunker of a CRPF camp. However the grenade missed the intended target and exploded far away. In this incident no loss of life or injury has been reported . Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers, the officer added.(GNS)

Two persons killed as private car falls into gorge in Doda

Two persons were killed when a private vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Doda district on Monday morning, officials said. A police officer told GNS that at about 10:15 hours, information was received that one Alto 800 car (JK06A-6864) fell in the gorge near Nandna area of police station Thathri, resulting in the on the spot death of two persons. They have been identified as Ajay kumar son of Mahender Singh of Chirna and Ranjeet Singh son of Som Lal of Jagote Phagso. Station House Officer of police station Thathri, Amrit Katoch confirmed it to GNS and said that a case has been registered and further investigations take up in this regard. (GNS)

Rains lash parts of JK, improvement in weather forecast from tomorrow

Rain lashed parts of Jammu Kashmir even as the weatherman has forecast improvement in weather from tomorrow. A meteorological department here told GNS that in the last 24 hours till 0830 a.m., Srinagar recorded 29.2mm, Pahalgam 4.8mm, Gulmarg 3.0mm, Jammu 0.2mm and Bhaderwah 0.3mm. Regarding the forecast, he said, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunder were likely in the next 24 hours. “Improvement in weather is expected from September 12,” he said. Landslide shuts Mughal Road in JK’s Poonch

A major landslide on Saturday shut the Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts,officials said. DTI Mughal Road Mohammad Aijaz Mirza said that the landslide occured near Poshana, closing the thoroughfare, news agency KDC reported. Official sources said that men and machinery has been pressed to clear the thoroughfare as soon as possible. Meanwhile Jammu-Srinagar highway and SSG road were through with traffic plying normally, they added.

Parts of Jammu Kashmir received rainfall even as weather department here on Saturday forecast scattered showers and thunder in next 24 hours. A meteorological department here told GNS that “scattered light rain/thunders” were also expected for subsequent two days. Journalist Siddique Kappan granted bail after detention of 2 years

The Chief Justice of India UU Lalit on Friday said the Supreme Court will grant bail to journalist Siddique Kappan. The journalist from Kerala was detained under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being gang-raped. The Uttar Pradesh government previously told the Supreme Court that Kappan has deep ties to the PFI and is part of a larger conspiracy to “incite religious discord and spread terror.” After having his bail request denied by a local court in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, in July of last year, Kappan appealed to the Allahabad High Court. Pak Rangers targeted our patrolling party, claims BSF

Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) on Tuesday said that there was “unprovoked firing by Pakistan rangers” on its patrol in Arnia sector in Jammu. In a statement issued to media, BSF said that: “Today morning the alert BSF Jammu troops gave a befitting reply to the unprovoked firing by Pak rangers on BSF Patrolling party in Arnia Sector.” The statement added that there was no loss or injury to BSF troops. Couple injured as unexploded shell goes off in Tangdhar

A couple was injured after an unexploded shell went off in Kuth Nard Bahek area in Tangdhar in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the incident took place this afternoon when the couple was on way to forests for grazing their cattle. He said that they were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, however, after initial treatment the duo was shifted to Srinagar hospital.
