A policeman was injured after militants hurled grenade at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir on Monday later evening, police said here. Kashmir zone police, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed that militants hurled a grenade at PCR Kashmir, resulting in minor injuries to a cop. Srinagar, Aug 14, KDC: Police on Sunday said that scooter allegedly used by two militants of LeT along with an AK rifle and two grenades were recovered following a gunfight at Nowhatta area of Srinagar. A policeman, Constable Sarfaraz Ahmad of Batote Ramban, and unidentified militant were injured in the gunfight, according to police. “Vehicle (scooter) used by two (militants) of LeT seized from the incident site. Besides, one Ak-74 rifle and two grenades have been recovered. Search still going on. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet. Earlier police said a policeman and a militant were injured in the “chance encounter” in Nowhatta area of Srinagar. “Police & CRPF are on the job. Author Salman Rushdie has been taken off a ventilator and is able to talk again, a day after being stabbed, reported BBC. Rushdie (75) was attacked while speaking at an event in New York state and was in a critical condition. His agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed the news to US media, but had previously said the author may lose an eye. The man charged over the attack pleaded not guilty to attempted murder on Saturday, and has been remanded in custody without bail. Jammu Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Sopore and Handwara areas north Kashmir. In Handwara police said that a police party of Police Post Langate, while on naka checking duty at main market Langate apprehended two persons who had attempted to evade the police party in a suspicious manner. "On search, around 300 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession," it said. Authorities on Tuesday imposed restrictions in parts of central Kashmir's Budgam district to prevent the assembly of people on the eve of Ashura. Shooting stones kill two pilgrims in JK’s Reasi

Two pilgrims were killed in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir due to shooting stones, officials said on Monday. “A pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh and another from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri lost their lives after being hit by a shooting stone near the cave of Shiv Khori Shrine in Reasi district,” said Babila Rakwal, Deputy Commissioner. Reports reaching to the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that shooting stones hit both the pilgrims. One died on the spot while another died on the way while getting shifted to the hospital.
