Tourist guide feared dead, 13 people including 11 sightseers stuck along Tarsar Lake

A tourist guide is feared dead while 11 sightseers and two other guides are trapped near banks of Tarsar Lake in south Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. Official sources told GNS that a group of 14 people including 11 tourists and three guides –Mohammad Ishaq Lone, Tariq Ahmad, both residents of Pahalgam, and Shakeel Ahmad of Gagangeer Ganderbal were on sightseeing near Tarser Lake. One of the guides, Shakeel Ahmad is feared drowned in the lake, they said. “The other people are stuck near the bank of the river,” they said. Subsequent to the information, a rescue team has been dispatched by police Pahalgam to retrieve the trapped persons, they said. “Further details are awaited,” they added. (GNS)

Teams constituted to evacuate trapper families in high altitudes of Kounsarnag

A number of migratory families have been stuck in the high altitudes of South Kashmir’s Kulgam while authorities have dispatched rescue teams to evacuate them. The families have been trapped after the inclement weather in the high altitudes of Kounsarnag. Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr Bilal said that he received distress calls from migratory families stuck in high altitude Kausarnag in Kulgam and accordingly teams were constituted and sent with necessary relief materials including blankets, and waterproof covers, and food items. He said teams will reach there after trekking for 30 kilometers. (KNT)

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Tuesday said they have attached Five (5) houses in central Kashmir's district Srinagar for using them in the purpose of militancy, officials said. Police spokesperson in a statement said that today on 21st June 21, five (05) residential Houses of wilful harbourers of militants were attached as per section 2(g) and section 25 of UAP Act. “These are the houses where it has been proved beyond doubt that these houses were used for purpose of militancy and the shelter/harbour was voluntarily/knowingly given by the member (s) of the house. Many attack on civilians, security forced were conspired and planned by militants while using these houses as hideouts,” he said. With parts of Kashmir facing drought-like situation due to low water level, farmers on their own are arranging bulldozers and other machinery to clean canals so that they can irrigate their fields. Fayaz Ahmad, a farmer from Kakapora Pulwama said that lift irrigation schemes weren't made functional when water level was normal in Jhelum. “We repeatedly requested authorities to clean canals which aren't dependent on lift irrigation schemes so that more water can reach paddy fields,” he added. “Now with their pleas falling on deaf ears, we hired bulldozers and other machinery and cleaned all canals in the area due to which the carrying capacity of canals has increased and more and more land is getting irrigated,” he said.
