Rubaiya Sayeed, the daughter of former Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, identified the chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik and three others as her abductors during her examination before the special CBI court in Jammu on Friday. Advocate Monika Kohli, CBI counsel, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that she has identified four of them. “She identified Yasin Malik through virtual mode,” Kohli said. Malik, who is lodged in Tihar jail, appeared before the Court through video conference. Amarnath pilgrim from Andhra dies of cardiac arrest in Pahalgam

An Amarnath pilgrim died of cardiac arrest, while a horseman died after falling off horse on Thursday during Amarnath Yatra in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir's Anantnag area, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a 66-year-old yatri identified as Kalavala Subrmanym from Andhra Pradesh died of a heart arrest at base camp hospital near the lower cave. He said that he was on way to Amarnath cave when he suffered cardiac arrest and was shifted to base camp hospital, where he breathed his last. A horseman ferrying Amarnath Yatris died on Thursday when he fell off a horse between the holy cave and Panjtarni. Official sources identified the victim as Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan son of Muhammad Yousuf Khan, a resident of Chakilpora Shangus Nowgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The horseman was on his way from holy to Panjtarni. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that due to slippery conditions, his horse slipped and he fell off it, resulting in his death. (KNT)

For the third consecutive year, No official function on Martyrs day in Kashmir

For the third consecutive year, no function was held to commemorate the Martyrs’ Day in Kashmir to pay homage to 22 Kashmiri people who were killed by the army of a Dogra ruler on this day in 1931, officials said on Wednesday. July 13 was a public holiday in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and a grand official function was held every year on this day where the chief minister or the governor would be the chief guest. However, the administration dropped the day from the list of gazetted holidays in 2020, after the abrogation of Article 370 and splitting of the erstwhile state into two union territories by the Centre on August 5, 2019. ASI shot dead, two cops injured in Lal Bazar militant attack

A police officer was shot dead while two cops were injured after militants attacked a naka party near GD Goanka school in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Tuesday evening. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that militants fired upon a naka party at Lal Bazar area, resulting in on spot death of an ASI and injuries to two other cops. Demand for camels high on Eid ul Adha in Kashmir

Ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha, camels have once again been put on sale in Kashmir. After remaining suspended for a day, Amarnath Yatra resumed on Wednesday with improvement in weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Yatra has resumed through both routes from Chandanwari and Baltal in Pahalgam and Ganderbal areas respectively. Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Jammu also informed that temporarily suspended Yatra has resumed again after improvement in weather conditions. New Delhi: After former JNU student Sharjeel Imam filed a plea in Delhi court alleging assault in the Tihar jail where he is lodged in an alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots, prison officials on Tuesday said they will "enquire into his allegation". Imam, on Monday, moved a Delhi court alleging harassment and assault by Tihar Jail officials.
