A 17 year-old youth was found hanging in Kralampora Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday evening, official said. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the a youth namely Umar Tariq S/o Tariq Ahmad R/o Kralampora Kangan was found hanging from a ceiling fan by his family members at his home this evening. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered to ascertain the cause of the youth's death, official said—(KNO)

Septuagenarian tourist dies in Srinagar

A septuagenarian female tourist from Gujrat died in a hotel in Srinagar on Saturday morning. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a 70-year old female tourist along with her family members was staying at a hotel in Baba Demb Srinagar. She fell unconscious and was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The deceased has been identified as Salma Siddiqui wife of Siddiqui Bhai Mansoor, a resident of Ahmadabad Gujrat. (KNT)

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Brar (Aragam),  area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district. A Police official said that on Wednesday RR of the Indian Army,  and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area launched cardon and search operation. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. Further details shall follow

Meer Irfan An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Heff Shermal area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. A Police official said that on Monday 1RR of the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area laid a cordon and search operation in the Shopian area. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per the latest reports, the Government forces have evacuated the civilians near the encounter site which is a residential house.

The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Saturday said that the region is gearing up for agitation in support of their demands for Statehood and Constitutional safeguards among others from June 1 if their issues are not addressed till then. Both the bodies from Leh and Kargil districts are expected to meet together next week to draw the final course of agitation for their demands. Police on Saturday filed a charge sheet against nine accused persons in a ‘narco-terrorism’ case, related to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition and narcotics in Karnah area of Kupwara district last year. “The charge sheet was filed in the Special NIA Court Baramulla against the six arrested accused and their three handlers presently based in Pakistan [administered] Kashmir. Atleast seven people were injured in a road accident on the historic Mughal road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday. An official told news agency—Kashmir Observer News (KNO) that a Tempo moving towards Srinagar skidded off the road and fell into a gorge. “Atleast seven persons sustained injuries in the incident”, said the official, adding that police and medical teams have rushed to the accident spot. He added that injured have been shifted to District hospital Shopian for treatment. The Indian photographer who clicked the photo of a street vendor covered in smoke from barbeques in Srinagar was named the overall winner of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022. The awards founder and director Caroline Kenyon said, “Sparks fly from the skewers, whose roasting we can almost smell. We imagine the warm, delicious aroma. This image, gentle but powerful, nourishes our soul.” Pertinently, thousands of photographers from all around the world had submitted their entries from more than 60 countries across the world.

Two persons arrested for selling dead chicken in Anantnag town

Suhail Dar Two persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly selling dead chicken in the Kadipora area of Anantnag town of south Kashmir. The incident came to the limelight when locals spotted a local chicken seller slaughtering a dead chicken to which he objected and the shopper duly apologized. Police officials told The Kashmiriyat that a shopkeeper was arrested in the Gajnag Kadipora area of Anantnag town, adding, that the shop has been locked down. Further investigations have been launched into the incident, he said.
