MGNREGA Engineers Association on Wednesday extended pen-down strike in favour of their demands till May 25. Rohit Dev Singh Manhas, State President MGNREGA Engineers told GNS that government continues to give cold shoulder to the genuine demands of the qualified engineering and other staff despite assurances from time to time. “There will be complete pen down strike till May 25,” he said, adding, “In case government fails to fulfill our genuine we will intensify the protests.” Work in Rural Development Department in Kashmir has remained affected for the several consecutive days as MGNREGA Engineers Association continued with their pen-down strike in favour of their ‘long pending’ demands. Gujarat tourist dies of suspected cardiac arrest in Srinagar

A 62-year-old tourist from India’s state Gujarat died of suspected heart attack at SMHS in summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday. Sources told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that one tourist identified Rashid Mansuri (62) son of Abdul Gani Mansuri, a resident of Gujarat fell ill at Tangmarg from where he was immediately shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment. Mansuri, after being brought to SMHS for treatment, died at the facility, they said. However, the body of the deceased will be handed over to his family members for last rites after the completion of medico-legal formalities. (KDC)

Narcotic smuggling: 2 including woman arrested in Kupwara

Security forces on Wednesday arrested two smugglers including a woman in north Kashmir's Kupwara district and recovered brown sugar from them. In a statement issued to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), an official said, a joint team of Kupwara Police and Army conducted routine checking at LoC gate and recovered two packets of narcotics containing Brown sugar from the possession of a lady and her accomplice. Police identified them as Gullu Begum wife of Rasheed Khan resident of Dader(Kandiyan) and Tanveer Khan son of Naseer Khan resident of Kandiyan. The duo, police said had earlier in the day crossed the LoC gate on the pretext of doing farming in the fields across the gate. World hypertension day: Just 36 percent women, 31 percent men have normal blood pressure in JK, reveal official figures

At least 11 percent women and 10 percent men in Jammu and Kashmir are suffering from hypertension while as more than half of the population in the UT are in pre hypertensive stage. As per the details of NHFS-5 available with the with the agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), just 36 percent women and 31 percent men in Jammu and Kashmir have normal blood pressure. Ganderbal: Youth found hanging from ceiling fan

A 17 year-old youth was found hanging in Kralampora Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday evening, official said. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the a youth namely Umar Tariq S/o Tariq Ahmad R/o Kralampora Kangan was found hanging from a ceiling fan by his family members at his home this evening. Septuagenarian tourist dies in Srinagar

A septuagenarian female tourist from Gujrat died in a hotel in Srinagar on Saturday morning. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a 70-year old female tourist along with her family members was staying at a hotel in Baba Demb Srinagar. She fell unconscious and was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar where doctors declared her dead on arrival. The deceased has been identified as Salma Siddiqui wife of Siddiqui Bhai Mansoor, a resident of Ahmadabad Gujrat. (KNT)

Encounter breaks out at Brar, Bandipora

An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Brar (Aragam),  area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district. A Police official said that on Wednesday RR of the Indian Army,  and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area launched cardon and search operation. Encounter rages in Shopian’s Heff area

Meer Irfan An encounter has started between militants and Government forces at Heff Shermal area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. A Police official said that on Monday 1RR of the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in the area laid a cordon and search operation in the Shopian area. During the cordon, the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per the latest reports, the Government forces have evacuated the civilians near the encounter site which is a residential house.

Probe ordered against 2 doctors over bribery after viral video in Rajouri

Administration in Rajouri on Sunday ordered an inquiry following video on Social Media in which a complainant accuses two doctors of Government Medical College Rajouri of demanding bribe for issuance of disability certificate. “A video is viral on Social Media wherein a complainant has alleged that two doctors of Govt. Hot summer expected in Ladakh as the region gears up for ‘massive’ agitation to demand restoration of ‘special status’

The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Saturday said that the region is gearing up for agitation in support of their demands for Statehood and Constitutional safeguards among others from June 1 if their issues are not addressed till then. Both the bodies from Leh and Kargil districts are expected to meet together next week to draw the final course of agitation for their demands.
