Two tourists from UP were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in tilted near Langanbal area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday. Official sources told GNS that the vehicle (Inova—JK02AE-6996) skidded off the road and tilted near langanbal. Two among the tourists travelling in the vehicle, coming from Anantnag towards Pahalgam, got injured and were rushed to PHC Pahalgam. The injured identified Satish Sahu (46) son of Viajna Sohu of Sadder Bazar Jansi and Reshaf Kumar (20) son of Suhan Kumar of Hansi UP were later discharged after first aid, a police official told GNS. Residents of Panzath area in Qazigund hamlet of South Kashmir's Anantnag district and Drusoo area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district have appealed the Jammu Kashmir Bank authorities to install an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) in these areas to ease their hardships. Locals from Panzath told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they were facing lot of inconvenience in withdrawing cash from their accounts through ATM, as there is no automatic teller machine located in the area. A policeman injured in a hit-and-run case in Handwara succumbed at a hospital here on Sunday morning, officials said. They told GNS that the policeman Khurshid Ahmad Mallik son of Abdul Ahad Malik, a resident of Hangah Mawer was fatally injured after hit by an unknown vehicle at Kralgund area in Handwara on March 18. He was since hospitalised at SMHS hospital Srinagar, however succumbed to his injuries this morning, they said. Confirming the death of policeman, a police official told GNS that a case is already registered in this regard and investigations are in full swing. (GNS)

A casual labourer of Power Development Department (PDD) was admitted to hospital after he suffered injuries while repairing a HT-wire at Batpora area of Kunzar in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. An official told the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an employee identified as Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Muhammad Mir of Devbugh Kunzar was critically injured while rectifying the electric supply at Batpora.  Authorities on Saturday warned of action against the vehicle owners not affixing High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) on the vehicles. In a communique issued in this regard, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir said that a good number of motor vehicles were plying without the HSRPs, in violation of the directions by Supreme Court of India and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in this regard As per the SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, the old plates were easy to tamper with “which can be misused by anti-national elements”. The SSP said that vehicles not affixing the plates were liable for action under section 192(1) and Rs 2000 fine. Rain lashed Kashmir Valley with northern Kupwara district receiving highest rainfall on Saturday, officials said. Amid cloud cover, night temperatures increased further across Jammu and Kashmir barring the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg. A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, received 6.0mm of rainfall and recorded a low of 10.7°C against last night’s 8.5°C. The CBI has booked former J&K Bank chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Shaikh and 18 others for a Rs 800 crore loss to the bank caused due loans to REI Agro, which were issued in violation of guidelines, without tangible security and on fake documents, officials said. In addition to officials of the bank, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also booked REI Agro chairman Sanjay Jhunjhunwala, and vice president and managing director Sandeep Jhunjhunwala, they said on Friday. A hangul (Kashmir stag) has been killed by a leopard in Tral forests during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the corpse of a female hangul was found on Wednesday morning in Shikargah area of Tral.
