Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday visited Chennai hospital to inquire the health of the Srinagar acid victim. Pertinently, a girl from old Srinagar city suffered burn injuries after acid was thrown on her near the Hawal area of Srinagar. Police inspector with ACB shot at, Injured in Batamaloo Srinagar

A police inspector with Anti-Corruption Bureau was shot and injured by suspected militants at Batamaloo area of Srinagar on Monday evening. Official sources told GNS that the gunmen fired in the neck of the Inspector, Sheikh Firdous, when he was returning from mosque. The injured was subsequently removed to hospital, they said. A senior police officer confirmed to GNS that the cop has suffered injuries in neck. However he said that his condition is stated to be stable. (GNS)

Jammu-Srinagar highway reopens for traffic

The 278-km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway was reopened for traffic on Sunday after remaining closed for few hours due to landslides, triggered by rains. A traffic police official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that vehicles stranded due to massive landslide at Magarkote area of Ramban were allowed to proceed towards their destinations. Barring Srinagar, night temperature fell below freezing point in Kashmir Valley on Sunday. A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar received 0.4mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours. Relief for Waheed Para: Supreme Court sets aside JK High Court order

In an appeal to the Apex Court by Attorney of Waheed Para for access to the statements of witnesses, the Supreme Court sets aside the high court order which had earlier deprived the protected witness statements. Earlier Jammu Kashmir High Court had denied Waheed Para the witness statements for conducting his trial before special NIA Court Srinagar. The High Court had stayed the trial court order that had directed prosecution to provide Waheed Para witnesses statements of protected witness after expunging identity of protected witnesses, for effective defence of the case.
