Masrat Zahra Makes Kashmir Proud- Wins Prestigious International Journalism Award

Masrat Zehra, who was in news the last month, for being booked under the Unlwaful Activities (prevention) Act has made Kashmir proud by winning an interntaional award provided by International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) for 2020. Masrat has been awarded the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award on Thursday, the award os provided in the honour of renowned German photojournalist Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in 2014 in Afghanistan. The $20,000 (more than 15 Lakhs) prize is awarded annually by the IWMF, which since 1990 has been fighting for press freedom and supporting courageous female journalists. Masrat’s pictures provide a glimpse into the everyday lives of people living in Kashmir, which sees regular internet shutdowns.

Shabir Khan The Jammu Kashmir Police in Handwara police claimed to have busted a massive "Pakistan-sponsored" narcotics racket and arrested 3 Lashkar-e-Taiba associates. "About 21 kgs of heroin were recovered from their possession, at a market value of Rs 100 crore and Indian currency of about Rs 1.34 Crore cash was also seized," the SP of Handwara Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy said, adding that, all finances from this drug peddling were being used to fund Militant activities in Jammu Kashmir with help from across the border. A Sub Inspector of Central Reserve Police Force died of a cardiac arrest in Sallar area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) district on Sunday afternoon. A CRPF Official upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat confirmed that 55 year old Sub Inspector identified as Ram Bharat Singh, posted with 134 Batlion of CRPF in Salar area met a heart attack during his duty, after which he was rushed to the hospital. Amid the growing cases of Covid 19 amd the surrounding panic, the authorities in Jammu Kashmir's Rajouri district have sent a horse to home quarantine for a period of four weeks. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the caretakers of the quarantined horse have been asked to use protective gears while dealing with the animal. Detailing the incident, officials said, “A team of Jammu Kashmir police patrolling the Mughal road on Tuesday evening intercepted a man returning from Kashmir Valley, the man was carrying a horse, he was immediately rushed to a medical screening center while the authorities were in a fix to decide about the horse."
